LIGHT Sheer

FAQ’s

Q: How does the LightSheer Diode Laser System work?

A: The system emits near-infrared laser light that is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser is pulsed, or turned on, for only a fraction of a second. The duration of each pulse is just long enough to damage the follicle, while the system’s unique, patented contact-cooling hand piece, the ChillTip, and helps protect the skin by conductive cooling during the laser energy delivery.

Q: Why should I use the LightSheer Diode Laser System rather than the method’s I’ve been using for years?

A: The LightSheer Diode Laser System’s design provides for enhanced comfort during treatment, minimal risk of infection, speed and accuracy. Since the system uses a unique cooling hand piece, it minimizes skin irritation that other methods may create. Since it is non-invasive (no needles to penetrate the skin), the risk of introducing bacteria into the skin is reduced. Because the system is fast, it allows for larger areas to be treated, considerably increasing the efficiency of the hair removal process, which allows more patients to be treated during a typical day. Finally, the LightSheer Diode Laser is a precise instrument that can be adjusted to damage only the hair follicle while minimally affecting the surrounding skin.

Q: Does the LightSheer work on tanned or different skin colors?

A: The LightSheer diode laser system safely and effectively treats all skin types (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI) as well as tanned skin. For darker skinned types and people with tans, appropriate fluencies are generally lower and appropriate pulse widths are generally longer to prevent damage to the epidermis. Using the appropriate treatment parameters, however, people with all skin types can benefit from laser hair removal with the LightSheer.

Q: Are the Results Permanent?

A: The LightSheer laser has been cleared by the FDA for hair removal and permanent hair reduction on all skin types and tanned skin. Every patient is different and an average full course of treatment can range from 3 to 8 treatments spaced approximately 6 t0 8 weeks apart to achieve satisfactory results. Our practice cannot promise that each patient will achieve any level of permanent hair reduction; however on average most patients can expect to achieve a 50-90% permanent reduction in the number of hairs following a full course of treatment.

Q: What does laser hair removal feel like?

A: Laser hair removal is typically a very tolerable procedure. On a scale of 1 to 10 most patients rate it a 3 0r 4. The procedure is often likened to a rubber band snap. Certain areas may be more sensitive, so it is recommended that a pain reliever be taken 20 minutes prior to the treatment or the use of a numbing cream prior to treatment.

Q: How long does a treatment usually take?

A: Depending on the area to be treated, laser hair removal can take only a few minutes or over an hour. The most commonly treated areas: bikini line, upper lip, chin, underarms typically require less than 20 minutes for treatment.

Q: Can I return to work and normal activities immediately?

A: Yes you can return to work and normal activities immediately. After laser hair removal, the treated site may feel like a mild sunburn for 24 hours or more. Slight redness and swelling surround the hair follicles is normal and is actually an indicator of a good clinical response. Although irritating preparations (glycolic acid, retinoids, etc) should be avoided, make up can be applied to the treated area shortly
